— What’s a Poetry Slam? —
A poetry slam is a game of competing words and performances with elimination rounds based on arbitrary rules like adherence to colonial constructs of linear time, lack of nudity or cosplay, and subjective scores from the crowd.
We will adhere to regular poetry slam rules with no exceptions:
– 3 minute time limit (time starts when you engage with the audience)
– Must read your own original writings
– No props or costumes allowed
– First place, second place, and third will receive prizes of $75, $50, or $25 respectively.
— About us —
The Saskatoon Indigenous Poets Society is a collective of Indigenous and ally spoken word artists bringing oral traditions and spoken word flowetry to the territory. We hope to give space for our collective communities to share in the spoken word practice, the cultural practice of oral storytelling, and have space for poetic healing within our community. You can find us on Instagram and Twitter.
— Volunteering —
We need volunteers for door minding, merch table, and set up. As always, our volunteers get in free! Please message us or email us at email@example.com to claim your spot!
— Special thank you and acknowledgements —
Thank you to our friends at Paved Arts for the donation of space and equipment!
